Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
