Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
