Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
